2018 Shavathon Online Fundraising Champions & Prize Winners

We thank our ALL Shavathon Online Fundraising Champions, who raised a total of R69,161 online, through their fundraising pages.

Online fundraisers were automatically entered into our online fundraising competition, making them eligible to win amazing prizes.

For the purposes of our competition, all funds raised via fundraising pages by 31 March 2018, midnight, were taken into account to determine our top fundraisers. However, some of our fundraisers continued to raise funds via their online fundraising pages after the deadline, for which we are truly grateful.

Winners:

1st place: Nerissa Naidoo – raised R27 349 by the competition deadline, but a total of R31,413

Nerissa Naidoo (wearing pink)

Nerissa shared her motivation for raising funds online for Shavathon: “Time passes so swiftly. Minutes to hours, days to months and before you take it all in… it’s been years. Six years ago, I lost a beautiful friend, someone I treated and loved as my very own sister. A light-hearted soul, full of joy and positive energy.

We laughed ourselves silly during the precious time we spent together, taking life day by day. Even though there were many moments of pain & heartache, wonderful memories were created… And a Promise made!

She said: ‘When I’m better, we will shave off our hair together.’ And I said: ‘Of course we will!’

It didn’t go according to plan because my soldier is no longer with us. But the time has come for me to fulfill my Promise. #30 DAYS TILL I SHAVE MY HAIR OFF!!! Please support me in raising funds for CANSA as we rock Shavathon 2018!!!… Let’s do it for our soldiers who bravely face their challenges with smiles on their faces.”

2nd place: Luc Janssens – raised R7 063 by the competition deadline, but a total of R13,456

Luc Janssens

Luc had grown his hair for over 2 years and asked for donations to secure his cut: “Hey awesome people! So, as a lot of you know, I have been growing my hair for quite some time (more than 2 years) and I was thinking that it’s time for a change. The plan is to do something that I have never done, and shave my hair a number 1 (or approx. 3mm) and then donate my hair. But instead of just doing that, I thought I would try and raise some money at the same time – seeing as though I have gone through the effort of growing this hair for 2 years! So I am trying to raise a minimum of R1 000 before I shave my head. So if any of you guys want to get the shock of your lives and see me with no hair, PLEASE donate.”

3rd place: Randridge Mall Team – raised R5 510 by the competition deadline, and in total.

A group of volunteers raised funds for CANSA Shavathon 2018 at Randridge Mall, their mantra being: “Supporting the Fighters, Admiring the Survivors and Honouring the Taken”.

4th place: Sam Drake – raised R5 000 by the competition deadline, and in total.

Sam challenged her donors to choose the new colour to dye her hair and landed up going BLUE: “Last year I shaved my head to help raise funds for CANSA, this year, I am colouring it up a bit…. Based on the amount I raise for the CANSA 2018 Shavathon, I will colour my hair (and I don’t mean, spray on colour): yellow = R700 / pink = R1,000 / orange = R1,500 / green = R2,500 / purple = R3,500 / blue = R5,000 – how much will you donate? Let’s help raise funds for CANSA in order for them to support o those affected by cancer.”
