About CANSA Shavathon

CANSA Shavathon is one of South Africa’s best-loved events in support of a very worthy cause, namely showing solidarity with those affected by cancer. Losing one’s hair is a common side-effect of cancer therapy – so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer Survivors.

Colouring your hair or paying a Bail Out Fee have become options for those who prefer not to shave, or who can’t shave on the day.  For those who like to be actively engaged and to make a difference, Shavathon embraces volunteers. Their support is invaluable.

2021 – Our 18th Shavathon

This is our 18th national CANSA Shavathon, independently managed by CANSA staff and volunteers, and we can’t wait to see you at one of our events! Show your support by bringing your loved ones along  – the options are endless – you can shave, spray or stencil your hair, OR do all 3!

We’re doing things a little differently this year, to make sure all COVID-19 regulations are in place and will be holding various events from Saturday, 27 February 2021 until Saturday, 27 March 2021 (extended to May 2021). Our Shavathon Hosts will be holding events from the 1st March 2021 until the 27th March

In order to fund our unique, integrated service and our holistic care & support to those affected by cancer, CANSA relies on the goodwill of individuals, government and corporate partners to support projects such as CANSA Shavathon.

CANSA is committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help as well as emotional support they need in the communities where they live. Our aim is to ensure that cancer Survivors and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone; we’re here to support them through every step of their cancer journey.*

Your support helps us to continue the fight against cancer in South Africa and brings us closer to the challenge of a cancer-free society within our generation. Let this become our legacy to our children and generations to come.

* The responsibility rests with patients to contact CANSA for assistance. CANSA is not informed of any diagnoses / of patients being treated at medical centres. Family need to obtain permission from patients, before CANSA may contact them. Read more…
